The Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Football Association (LFA) has officially unveiled a soccer tournament, which would kick-off on Saturday 17 March in Modimolle.
A total of 14 teams will get the opportunity to battle it out for trophies and medals.
Modimolle-Mookgophong LFA chairperson, Hlupi Lehong, said the next leg of the tournament will be launched in Mookgophong and Vaalwater in coming weeks.
Lehong commended the business community for donating soccer balls, trophies and medals to make this tournament possible.
He told The BEAT businessmen Tsongo Maremane, Joe Maremane, Mokopane resident Simon Maremane, and Modimolle resident Edwin Mogoane, collectively contributed prizes for the tournament.
“We are hoping this tournament will inspire young people and encourage them to participate in sports, especially soccer. Young people are safer when they are at soccer fields. Being sports-active also helps them to do better in school,” he said.
Mogoane said one of the reasons why he got involved in this development was because of the dedication and passion shown by the youth.
“As a parent, I would prefer to see children doing something constructive about their lives than roaming the streets. The aim is to encourage these youngsters to come together and do something positive, than to sit under a tree and do drugs and alcohol,” he said.
