When Diesel ‘n Dust FC manager Gilbert Gyampong predicted his team would win the Waterberg SAB League this season, sceptics suspected he was doing a “Kgoloko Thobejane” on the soccer fraternity.
In case someone wants to know, Thobejane is the Baroka FC head coach who infamously predicted his team would win the Premier Soccer League last season, only to end up sweating it out in the second-tier promotional play-offs.
Gyampong came across more convincing when Diesel ‘n Dust FC stunned reigning league champions, Rapotokwane Qualitho FC, with a quick goal in the Nedbank Cup preliminaries last Saturday, 7 October.
The match was, however, washed out after 15 minutes of play following weekend downpours.
Earlier in the day a resurgent Bela-Bela Pirates FC beat Opleft FC 6-5 on penalties, to advance into the next stages of the coveted Nedbank Cup.
The score was 3-all at the end of regulation time.
