It was a matter of back to the drawing boards after the Limpopo under-21 soccer squad – featuring Koketso Tselapedi of Qualitho FC – was sent tumbling from the SAB national under-21 championships.
The curtain fell on the inter-provincial tournament in Soweto on 29 July.
A disappointed provincial side coach, Jabu Mhlaba, said a number of factors worked against his team, such as limited time for preparations.
The Limpopo side was overwhelmed 5-0 by the Northern Cape, and then went on to beat the Eastern Cape 2-1.
In the third match the Limpopo squad was again let down by lack of concentration, and went down 5-1 to Gauteng.
In the last match the Limpopo side went down 4-1 to Mpumalanga, which signalled the end of the team’s journey at the provincial tournament.
Gauteng was the tournament’s overall winner, after beating USSA 4-1 after the penalty shootout, in the final. The regulation time score was 3-all.
“For us it is back to the drawing boards to prepare for future tournaments,” Mhlaba said.
