It is now apparent that lack of resources will not stop Magnificent FC from competing in the Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality Mayor’s Cup this season.
The team, which appeared in the preliminary stages of the Mayor’s Cup with barefooted players, continued to secure a spot in the next stages of the competition.
Teams from within the municipality have already started with the knockouts, culminating into the main event.
On Saturday, Magnificent FC played to a 3-all draw with Modimolle All Stars at the end of the 90 minutes.
In the penalties, Magnificent FC won 5-4 as they confirmed the continuation of their journey, on barefoot!
It was the end of the journey for Terrors FC who lost 5-1 at the hands of United FC.
Coincidentally, Home Defenders FC and Happy Boys FC also secured 5-1 victories against their opponents Arsenal FC and Rangers FC respectively.
All Stars FC won on a walkover against Modimolle Masters.
In Vaalwater, Baroka FC secured a 2-0 walkover victory against Tigers FC.
A 1-all stalemate between Seven Stars FC and Highlighters FC was decided on penalties where Seven Stars won 6-5.
Another 1-all draw of the day between Zebras FC and Sporo FC saw the two teams go into penalties.
Sporo FC won 6-5 from the lottery.
In other fixtures, Motherwell FC won 2-0 against Wits FC, with Young Stars securing a 2-1 victory against Bakgalaka FC.
Stone Breakers FC won 3-2 on penalties after a hard fought 0-all draw with Mabatlane Clinic FC.
Jacaranda FC won 2-0 on walkover against Black Stars FC.
Modimolle LFA chairperson Hlupi Lehong, who co-organised the tournament, said the preliminary stages of the Mayor’s Cup will be concluded this coming weekend, where eight final teams will forwarded to participate in the main event.
Lehong acknowledged Modimolle-based referee Titus Segwapa for volunteering his services during these games.
He indicated that the passion for football development must always prevail, so that the youngsters within the borders of Modimolle-Mookgophong can be given the opportunity to shine.
Contrary to the previous years where the Mayor’s Cup was only about football, this year’s event will be a 4-in-1 affair.
It will consist of a fun run/walk, soccer, volleyball and netball.
The two-day Mayoral event will be held at the Ephraim Mogale Stadium from Saturday, 15 July to Sunday, 16 July.
