Bela-Bela child murder accused Tumelo Ngobeni was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Thursday, 30 November.

The sentence by the Modimolle Regional Court was a sequel to the gruesome death of three-year old Kamogelo Ramulane, who was doused with petrol and burnt alive.

The child died of her wounds in hospital.

Police believe the tragedy was a follow-up to a protection order request by Kamogelo’s mother, Tshenolo, against Ngobeni.

On the day of the tragedy, Kamogelo was rushed to Mmankweng Hospital at Mokopane for treatment, but passed away at around 19:00 on 14 October.

Speaking after Ngobeni’s sentencing, Kamogelo’s mother, Tshenolo, said she was still hurting but added she was thankful justice had taken its course.

Ngobeni spent 14 months in custody after he was denied bail several times.
