A post motem was being planned for this week following the shocking death of a male person – believed to be a ZCC priest - in a shack fire at Bela-Bela’s Extention 1.
The shack in which the priest lived on his own went up in flames on the night of Wednesday, 8 November.
Bela-Bela police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Abel Phetla, said it was suspected a male person died in the fire.
He said because the deceased was burnt beyond recognition, pathological processes were to be conducted to determine the identity of the charred remains of the male person.
The shack was completely destroyed by the inferno.
Phetla said neighbours tried to douse out the fire with buckets of tap water, but by the time the fire brigade and the emergncy services arrived, “it was too late.”
Phetla, a member of the ZCC himself, said the congregation was still reeling in shock at the tragedy, and members were trying to come to terms with the whole incident.
The cause of the fire was, at the time of going to press, still unknown.
