The ANC won a major battle of minds after sailing home in by-elections in two major centres of the Waterberg.
The ANC emerged victorious in ward one at Modimolle/Mookgophong, and ward nine in the Mogalakwena Municipality on Wednesday, 2 August.
This after a strong challenge from both the DA and EFF.
The DA on its part brought in national leader Mmusi Maimane, who went door-to-door at Vaalwater.
The stakes were so high that the ANC also brought in Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to campaign at Vaalwater.
Limpopo ANC secretary, Nocks Seabi, congratulated his party’s candidates for winning the confidence of their communities.
“We expect from them nothing less than total commitment,” he said.
Moswana Stoffel Seodisa of the ANC won in Vaalwater, by more than a thousand votes (64,42 percentage margin).
Klaas Mabula of the EFF was the closest at 557 votes and the DA’s Eric Aphane got 402 votes.
The ward previously belonged to the ANC and became vacant when the incumbent resigned.
In Ward 9, Lucas Mooka of the ANC won at 79.45%.
Mooka was contesting with Titus Mokoka of the DA, the EFF’s Sello Sinwamadi, and independent candidate William Mafora.
This ward also belonged to the ANC and became vacant when the incumbent passed away.
