The BEAT’s personnel at Bela-Bela had a visitor on Thursday, 10 November. This grey-banded kingsnake arrived at the office’s back door for a visit. According to snake expert Cor Viljoen, this snake is not native to South Africa, and is most likely an escaped pet. The snake is native to arid parts of North America such as Mexico and Texas. In cases where an exotic animal is found wandering loose, snake catchers have three options – they can keep the snake, kill it, or donate it to a collector or a zoo. Viljoen asked readers to please take good care of their exotic pets and ensure that they do not escape. Photo supplied.
