Transport authorities were determined to tackle head-on bad road users starting with a campaign in Bela-Bela in recent days.
The national Department of Transport and its agencies hosted an event in Bela-Bela to launch the 2017 festive season safety campaign on Friday, 1 December.
Targeted were all road users including motorists and pedestrians.
Officials from the department, together with those from the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), and also Cross Boarder, interacted with Bela-Bela shoppers at Bela-Mall.
The teams distributed pamphlets bearing messages of safety, and handed out goodies such as reflector jackets, and also stationery and sweets for kids.
Bela-Bela Mayor Jeremiah Ngobeni and his entourage were among those who visited the stalls and received relevant information.
A delegation from the Modimolle-Mookgophong mayor’s office also attended.
The event was held as a build-up to the major event, the National 2017 Festive Season Road Safety Campaign Launch, which was scheduled to take place at Bela-Bela’s Sunfa Stadium on Tuesday, 5 December.
Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi, and Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Makoma Mahurupetje, were billed to preside over the event.
