The Bela-Bela Local Municipality has launched a major makeover and greening of the neighbourhood ahead of the festive season.
According to municipal spokesperson David Robololo, the municipality was undertaking the exercise, depending on the broader community to also give a voluntary hand.
“We have started this project by building rockeries at the department of transport offices, and will move towards inner sections of the town and elsewhere.
“For example, the sections in Chris Hani Road that lay barren, we want to decorate with plants and rock formations.
“We would like to invite the community and local business to donate whatever plants or precious stones they have for this project,” he said.
Robololo said that the municipaliy currently favoured shrubs that do not require much water and have a high tolerance to heat.
“Plants that do not need plenty of water can be used in this project. This aims to make our town pretty, to promote a sense of welcoming to those who will be spending their vacations here,” Rabololo said.
