The winter initiation school season was rounding off to an end on Saturday 22 July, after running from Saturday, 24 June.

Winter initiation seasons were aimed at granting initiates the opportunity to return to school at the end of the holidays.

The Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta) in Limpopo said it was ready towards the resumption of the new school term and reaffirmed its commitment to a Zero Death Initiation Season.

Coghsta has been working hand-in-glove with the Limpopo House of Traditional Leaders (LHTL), families of the initiates and other relevant stakeholders.

The Department received 294 applications to run initiation schools, including Waterberg’s 79.

A total of 272 initiation schools were approved, and the remaining were disapproved, based on the requirements announced ahead of the application period.

Approved initiation schools across the province opened their doors to welcome the young men and women.
