Police from Gauteng and Limpopo worked jointly to corner car theft sus-pects who were arrested at Bela-Bela on Tuesday, 21 November.
Scores of people flocked to the corner of Potgieter Road and Marx Street to see what was happening when police and traffic vehicles, sirens blaring, sped towards the vicinity of the Bosveld Mall.
According to the police, a tracker company called the owner of the stolen vehicle which was travelling at high speed from Pretoria headeding for Pienaarsrivier.
The tracker company then alerted the police at Pienaarsrivier to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
At the time of the latter communication, the stolen vehicle had already sped past Pienaarsrivier, and the police at Bela-Bela were alerted to keep an eye out for the vehicle and its occupants.
Bela-Bela cluster member, Warrant-Officer Sello Mangana, said the suspects noticed the police were chasing them and abandoned the car on the corner of Potgieter Road and Marx Street.
The two suspects were cornered and arrested in the vicinity of the mall.
Mangana said the suspects were detained and charged with the possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, and were expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court shortly. Other information suggested the two suspects were heading for Tzaneen.
