Bela-Bela businessman Jonas “Jeepers” Mthombeni’s attempt at bail application was postponed to later in the week, pending further police investigations.

Mthombeni, who was allegedly nabbed in the possession of, among other official items, police uniforms, was expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court mid-week.

He was arrested on Friday, 2 November, following a pre-dawn raid on his house wherein investigators found a military uniform, blue lights, gun-holsters and binoculars.

On Monday, 20 November, Bela-Bela police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Abel Phetla, said investigators had already discovered that the date stamp found among the confisticated stolen items had gone missing from the Gauteng SAPS Provincial Office.

He said the police also confirmed that the military vest was stolen from the SANDF offices in Pretoria.

Phetla further confirmed all the discovered items were found during the early-morning raid in Mthombeni’s Extension 8 home.
