Three suspects arrested for the much-publicised farm murder outside Bela-Bela were scheduled to make a bid for bail this week.
The Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court had set aside Thursday, 19 October, for a formal bail application by the threesome.
Piet Mathebula, Nico Nkanuyana and Tshepo Thebula were rounded up by detectives in a pre-dawn raid at a hideout at the Kanana section of Hammanskraal early this month.
The three men appeared before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court for the second time on Friday, 13 October.
The court appearance was a sequel to the murder of the elderly Pattie Peterson (73), who was shot in the stomach.
Her husband, Cecil, was at the time of going to press still undergoing treatment at the Eugene Marais Hospital in Pretoria.
The tragedy occurred on Wednesday, 13 September.
Round-the-clock detective work by members of the Bela-Bela police led to the dramatic arrest of three of the four suspects.
Police searched the hideout at Kanana and recovered at least three firearms, ammunition and an allegedly stolen Volkswagen Polo and cellphone.
Bela-Bela SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Hester Van Zyl on Monday, 16 October, said detectives were still on a manhunt for the fourth suspect.
