Alleged drug dealer, Evy Ezeagbai, was headed for the higher Modimolle Regional Court on a date to be decided by the lower courts on Wednesday, 11 October.

The 49-year-old Nigerian national was arrested during a sting operation by the Hawks towards the end of July.

At the time SAPS Limpopo provincial spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, had disclosed that the Hawks, following up on a tip-off, stopped the suspect’s vehicle which was allegedly transporting drugs in Bela-Bela.

A search of the vehicle found 4,6 kg of CAT, with a street value to the tune of R1.3 million, Mojapelo explained.

Ezeagbai has been charged with the possession and dealing with illegal narcotics and bail has been denied.

He remained in custody at the maximum security Kgosi Mampuru II Prison in Pretoria.

During Ezeagbai’s latest court appearance on Friday, 15 September, he was ordered to return to the Bela-Bela Magistrates Court where a date will be set for trial in the Regional court in Modimolle.

In an unrelated development, the trial of alleged drug dealer, the Zimbabwean national, Daniel Maparangwa (28), continued with testimony from witnesses on Wednesday, 13 September.

The charges brought against him are from several drug-related charges emanating from cases which took place between June and September last year.

Maparangwa is on bail of R5000, and was expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 October.
