A Bela-Bela traffic officer escaped serious injury when a vehicle allegedly speeding on the wrong side of the road nearly collided with his official car head-on, on Monday, 17 July.
The officer, Elliot Mosiamedi, was forced to swerve to the right, but unfortunately lost control and the vehicle overturned.
According to local traffic head, Isaac Monare, Mosiamedi was returning from setting up a camera in the vicinity of the Emmarentia Geldenhuys mission station, when suddenly a vehicle approached at high speed on the wrong side of the road.
The speeding vehicle was from Bela-Bela headed towards Modimolle.
“Mosiamedi tried to swerve, but lost control of the vehicle, which overturned,” Monare said. “We are very happy that our colleague did not sustain serious injuries from the accident.”
A case of negligence was opened against the driver of the other vehicle, who fled the scene.
